In order to get back into my creative life, I’ve decided to try new things.
I realized I have a giant stockpile of tie scraps and wanted to use them so they don’t go to waste. I’ve made some magnets and earrings with the scraps and am in love with them! They will be on my Etsy in mid November so check back soon!
Losing someone important in your life is extremely difficult.
Earlier this summer I was contacted by a wonderful woman whose father recently passed. She was looking for a way to save her father’s ties in a creative way, and stumbled upon my Etsy shop. She asked if I could make a custom pillow if she sent me her father’s ties – all the way from Canada.
It seems that whenever I start a new life activity I somehow incorporate ties into it. The first time this happened was when I was in college and had to carry around books everywhere I went, so of course I made a sturdy book bag.
The second instance of a tie takeover was when I was practicing yoga almost every day and was tired of carrying around my yoga mat in my arms. This introduced my first – and so far, only – yoga mat bag (more on this later … I have some grand ideas for yoga mat bags).
Hi, my name is Haley and I am a scrap hoarder. There. I said it.
I have over 7 years worth of tie scraps taking up a lot of space in my work room (that’s two big drawers full!), but I can’t seem to part with the beautiful silky patterns. I’ve recently started to deconstruct ties a bit more, taking them apart and seeing what I could create with the fabric. Normally, I leave the tie somewhat together because they are much stronger that way.
